Shajra Mubarak

What is Shajra Mubarak?

The term "Hasab" refers to the maternal ancestral line, while "Nasab" refers to the paternal ancestral line. Together, "Hasab-o-Nasab" means the combined maternal and paternal ancestral line. Essentially, it denotes a child's lineage, tracing back their parents, grandparents, and so on, as far back as possible. This is also known as the family tree in English.

Similarly, there is a spiritual Shajra. When a disciple (mureed) takes an oath of allegiance (bay'at) under a spiritual guide (Peerr-o-Murshid), they are given a Shajra. This Shajra contains the spiritual lineage of the disciple's guide, listing the names of all the spiritual leaders leading back to the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

How is Shajra Mubarak Given?

Shajra Mubarak was either memorized or written down in the past due to the lack of printing technology. Nowadays, it is provided in various formats. The Shajra of our Qadri-Chishti lineage is available on our website www.sufitanveeripeer.com in text, image, PDF, and video formats.

Why is Shajra Mubarak Given?

Shajra Mubarak provides extensive information about the names of all the spiritual leaders in your lineage, their ranks, and your place in this spiritual hierarchy. It reveals how ancient your lineage is and informs you about the Imams, Ghous, Abdals, Qutubs, and Walis in your lineage. It also provides insights into both the past and present of your spiritual lineage.

Why Should Shajra Mubarak be Read?

The spiritual guide has accepted you into their spiritual lineage, establishing a spiritual connection with all the leaders in that lineage. Maintaining this relationship requires regular engagement. Just as staying in touch with relatives strengthens familial bonds, regularly reciting Shajra Mubarak fosters a connection with spiritual ancestors. Visiting their shrines if they have passed or meeting them if they are alive further strengthens this bond. If visiting frequently is not possible, remembering and reciting their names is recommended.
