Question:
What is the secret of ablution in Shariah and Tariqat (Islamic law and spiritual path)?
Answer:
A disciple should always remain in a state of ablution. Ablution not only purifies the heart but also alleviates the weariness of the soul. Remaining in ablution constantly illuminates the face. Just as when we perform ablution, an invisible system begins to operate within our beings. Therefore, consider it as if wearing a spiritual and luminous garment that constantly protects you. It is said that if someone sleeps after performing ablution, no devil can harm them. In such a state, if they pass away, it is considered a martyr's death. Our predecessors have advised that if one wakes up during sleep, they should perform ablution and recite "Tehiyatul Wudu" (supplications after ablution), as it leaves an impact on our tongues, making it easier to tread this path.
Today, many women complain that their children have become disobedient. Their children do not listen to them, to the extent that they become so distressed that they express regret over having children. However, the real reason behind this is whether they have breastfed their children after performing ablution. Those who have also breastfed their children after performing ablution have seen that their children become obedient. Virtuous qualities are instilled in their children because Allah's grace is included in the actions performed after ablution. Every mother should breastfeed her child after performing ablution so that the child becomes obedient to their parents, Allah, and His Messenger ﷺ. Breastfeeding time has passed, so what can be done now is that they should prepare food with ablution. If they prepare food with ablution, the effects of ablution will be different. If there is an illness, it will be cured by consuming that food. Illnesses are not cured by medicine but by the healing power infused by Allah. Otherwise, we have seen that thousands who take medicine experience its side effects. When they prepare food with ablution, they will see that a new aspect has emerged in their husbands. The purpose of preparing food with ablution is that an invisible system is established with them.
Some of our Sufi masters say, "We are of the path, what need do we have for Shariah's ablution?" For them, even after following the ablution of the spiritual path, they should adhere to the ablution of Shariah. Then they will see that their spirituality reaches new heights.
The greatest struggle is to maintain ablution. We have heard and read about our elders, such as Hazrat Ghous-ul-Azam (RA), who performed Fajr prayer with the ablution of Isha for 40 years, and Imam Abu Hanifa (RA), who performed Fajr prayer with the ablution of Isha for 50 years. Those whom we consider the crown of our heads, due to whom we are known as Qadri, Chishti, Hanafi, etc., their actions indicate that we should also adhere to the ablution of Shariah.
What is the ablution of Tariqat? Understand the ablution of Tariqat while comprehending the ablution of Shariah. First, we take water into our hands; within it lies the hidden secret of whether the water is clean or dirty. Now, in the ablution of Tariqat, the first step is to perform ablution of the hands. This means not spreading one's hands in front of others. When we raise our hands, we raise them for the welfare of people. And the third point is that we will not indulge our hands in sins. Just as in Shariah, when we rinse our mouth, it means that whatever words we speak from now on will be pure. We will mention Allah's name and recite His remembrance. Putting water in the nose means saving our nose from the smell of the world and imbuing the fragrance of Madinah's soil into it. We will perfume our noses with the fragrance of the saints. Washing the face means we will always keep our face directed towards Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. We will not turn our face towards anything unworthy. The most significant sins of a person come from their eyes. Washing the eyes means saving them from seeing the wrong things. Avoid listening to wrong things from the ears. And wiping the head means saving it from evil thoughts and imagination and establishing the concept of the spiritual mentor within it. And the purpose of washing the feet is to prevent them from walking on the wrong path and to step forward towards every step of the purified Shariah and continue on the path of Tariqat.
